Family Photos with a Surprise Proposal | Fauna & Film

What started out as normal family photos turned into one of the most special and memorable sessions we’ve ever done. This Huntsville Botanical Garden proposal was so fun to plan and even more fun to document and preserve as heirloom artwork.

The Setup

When Nick first reached out to us about this session, he said he was gifting Anna family photos for Valentine’s Day. Already, we were so excited–we have worked with this family in the past and absolutely loved them. But then he told us he was planning to propose, and that took our excitement to a new level.

Throughout the planning process, we wanted to make sure everything would go smoothly for the big moment. But also, we never wanted to lose sight of the original Valentine’s Day gift–family photos. So as we worked out all the details and logistics, we also planned how to ensure the kids had fun and mama walked away with some beautiful photos with her babies.

The Family Photos

The Huntsville Botanical is always beautiful, but especially so in spring. The two kiddos were running around and playing, but also taking time to stop and smell the flowers.

We brought a couple point and shoot film cameras for the littles to play with. While Elliot’s camera was just a prop, we did load Margot’s camera with a roll of 35mm. The kids had so much fun with the cameras, and the addition of photos from Margot’s POV made the final gallery even more special.

The Proposal

And then… the big moment. Nick sent the kids to run ahead then dropped to one knee.

…And she said yes, of course!

Once the kids realized what was happening, they ran back over and we popped the bubbly (sparkling cider for the littles, of course!). Being a photography duo came in handy for this session. Rose could hang with the kiddos while Robyn took some impromptu engagement photos for Anna and Nick.

The Artwork

The Bespoke Heirloom Album is an excellent choice for almost any session. Albums are such a treasure for telling a story, and we love that we can preserve those precious stories in a beautiful book that can be looked back on for decades.

Nick + Anna’s album turned out so stunning. The family photos with the added surprise of the proposal tell such a complete story, and we are so happy that this family will be able to relive their special day through this artwork.

We were so honored to be a part of this Huntsville Botanical Garden proposal. This is a session that we will remember for a long time.

Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal, just got engaged, or want updated photographs of your family, we’d be overjoyed to create heirloom artwork from those moments. Inquire today–we can’t wait to hear from you.
